When was the last time you really thought about bees? Not just when one flew a little too close — but about the role they play in our world?
Don’t Step on a Bee Day, celebrated every year on July 10, is a fun and quirky reminder that these tiny creatures are doing some seriously big work. And at Vacation Care Australia, we’re turning this sweet little day into a hands-on learning adventure that’s as educational as it is exciting.
Why Bees Matter
Bees are more than just honey-makers. They’re essential pollinators — helping plants grow, flowers bloom, and crops thrive. Without them, many of the foods we love (think apples, almonds, blueberries, even coffee!) would be in short supply.
But here’s the sting: bee populations are under threat. Habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change are putting pressure on these vital pollinators. That’s why it’s so important to raise awareness — and inspire the next generation to care.
Bee Adventures with Vacation Care Australia
Children can explore the fascinating world of bees through two unique, hands-on programs. With Dunc’s Honey, they’ll get up close (but not too close!) to real bees in a safe, interactive setting. Live hive displays, honey extraction demonstrations, and the chance to taste fresh honey straight from the source make this a deliciously engaging way to learn about pollination and the vital role bees play in our ecosystem.
For a deeper cultural perspective, Buzz-in to Aboriginal Honey introduces children to the ancient and sustainable honey-gathering practices of First Nations people. Through stories and demonstrations, they’ll discover how Aboriginal communities have worked in harmony with native bees for thousands of years — fostering a strong connection to Country and nature’s rhythms. Together, these experiences offer a powerful blend of environmental education and cultural understanding.
How Kids Can Help the Bees
Even small actions can make a big difference. Through our programs, children learn how to:
- Plant bee-friendly flowers in their gardens or schoolyards
- Avoid harmful pesticides
- Support local beekeepers
- Share what they’ve learned with friends and family
Let’s Keep the World Buzzing
Bees may be tiny, but their impact is enormous. This Don’t Step on a Bee Day, we’re proud to offer experiences that help children understand, appreciate, and protect these incredible insects.
So on July 10, take a moment to look down — and step around, not on, the bees.
Let’s keep the buzz alive, together.
